JOPLIN, Mo. -- The Washburn Lady Blues softball team was 1-1 in early action on Saturday afternoon at the MSSU/PSU Crossover Invitational. Results from Washburn's final game of the day with Drury were unavailable. The Lady Blues will wrap up play on Sunday at 9 a.m. against Missouri S&T.
The Lady Blues (3-5) defeated Rockhurst (0-2) 5-2 in game one and fell to Southeastern Oklahoma State 9-5 in the second game of the day.
WU trailed 2-0 against Rockhurst, but tallied runs in every inning from the fourth inning on to claim the win.
Ashley Podschun had an RBI double in the fourth to get the Lady Blues on the board. Washburn added two runs in the fifth to take the lead and plated single runs in the sixth and seventh innings, respectively to claim the win.
Samantha Farris (1-1) tossed a complete-game allowing two runs on five hits to earn her first win of the season.
The Lady Blues fell behind 6-0 in game two and a late rally proved too little too late in a 9-5 loss to Southeastern Oklahoma State. SEOSU plated a single run in the first, two in the second and three in the third to claim the early advantage.
Washburn plated two runs in the fourth on an RBI single by
Lauren Himpel and an RBI triple from
Lindsey Himpel.
SE Oklahoma State scored a single run in the fifth and two in the sixth to open a 9-2 lead. The Lady Blues rallied for three runs in the seventh on a bases-loaded double by
Jacque Horejsi, but they could get no closer.
Kayla Long (2-3) allowed nine runs, eight of them earned, on 13 hits in six innings and took the loss for Washburn.
