TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Lady Blues pounded out 22 hits in a pair of 8-0 wins over Baker in non-conference action Tuesday at the Washburn softball complex. The Lady Blues (14-13) will be back in action in MIAA play hosting Northwest Missouri on Friday at 3 p.m.
In the first game, the Lady Blues broke open a scoreless tie with a five-run, third inning capped by a pair of RBI singles by
Britny Cushing and
Alex Zordel.
Lauren Himpel had an RBI single in the inning as well as the Lady Blues sent 12 batters to the plate in the inning.
Ashley Podschun led off the fifth inning with a home run and Washburn added two unearned runs in the sixth inning as Cushing wrapped up the game with a two RBI double to center putting Washburn up 8-0 for the six inning win.
Kelsie Novotny had a perfect game through the first 14 WIldcat batters before Chelsi Taylor singled in the fifth inning breaking up the no hitter and perfect game. Novotny finished with three strikeouts scattering three Baker hits. Cushing drove in four runs in the game.

Lindsey Himpel. In the second, Washburn scored four more in the second inning highlighted by a three-run home run to right field by
Lindsey Himpel.
Marissa Martin recorded an RBI single in the inning as well. Washburn added two more in the third inning and one more in the sixth - all unearned as the Wildcats committed six errors in the game.
Samantha Farris picked up the win tossing five inning allowing three hits.
