#4 Lady Blues volleyball team wraps up non-conference with 8-0 record

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The No. 4-ranked Washburn Lady Blues improved to 8-0 on the season in the final day of the UMSL Triton Classic wrapping up the non-conference season with a pair of 3-0 wins over Southern Indiana and Illinois-Springfield. Washburn will open the MIAA slate at home against Northwest Missouri in Lee Arena on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

In the 3-0 win over the Lady Blues Jessica Fey became only the fourth Washburn volleyball player and the first since the 2002 season to record 10 total blocks in a three set match in the 25-15, 25-13, 26-24 win over Southern Indiana. Her 10 total blocks (3 solo/7 assisted) - which also tied a career-high - were part of 14 total team blocks by the Lady Blues in the match. Breanna Lewis added five total blocks.

Mollie Lacy led the Lady Blues with 10 kills with two errors in 17 attempts. Lewis had eight kills and Hillary Hughes and Fey each added seven kills. Amanda Guess had 28 assists and Molly Smith had 14 digs. Washbur also recorded 10 aces with Hughes serving up a career-high five.

Washburn held the Screaming Eagles to a .061 hitting percentage as USI had 31 kills with 24 errors in 114 attempts.

Washburn wrapped up the classic with a 3-0 win over Illinois-Springfield winning 25-13, 25-12, 25-18. Jessica Kopp led the Lady Blues attack with 13 kills and one error in 29 swings. Kelci Wigger added nine kills. Abby Wittman had a career-high 31 assists and Courtney Churchman had a career-high 12 digs. The match took only 57 minutes to play.
