JOPLIN, Mo. -- The Washburn Ichabods jumped out to a 10-point lead at Missouri Southern but let the lead slip in a 90-73 loss to the Lions. Washburn returns to home on Wednesday to face Pittsburg State on Wednesday in Lee Arena.
The Ichbods an early lead at 27-17 on a lay up by
De'Andre Washington, who led the Ichabods with 22 points hitting 7 of 13 shots including 4 of 8 3-pointers on the afternoon. From that lead the Lions would go on a 14-0 run taking a 31-27 lead and would go into the locker room with a 46-40 advantage. Washburn shot a blistering 64 percent from the field in the first half hitting 16 of 25 attempts from the field and 5 of 12 from 3-point range.
In the second half the Ichabods trimmed the lead back to six on a 3-pointer by
Jeff Reid with 16:36 remaining but they would get no closer as the Lions built a lead as many as 20 in the second half with 8:01 remaining.
Following Washington's 22 points,
Logan Stutz had 20 on 8 of 10 shooting from the field. Skyler Bowling had 30 points to lead the Lions as he was 16 of 17 from the free throw line. As a team the Ichabods were 12 of 19 and the Lions attempted 43 free throws compared to 19 for the Ichabods hitting 12.
The Ichabods were 26 of 55 from the field shooting 47 percent from the field while the Lions finished 27 of 52 for a 52 percent mark.
