Ichabods hold off Blue Tigers in regular season finale

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- The Washburn Ichabods let a 11-point second half lead slip away and survived a potential 3-point game-winning shot by Lincoln at the buzzer to wrap up the regular season with a 69-67 win over the Blue Tigers. Washburn (18-8, 15-7 MIAA) will be the No. 3 seed in the MIAA Championship Tournament playing on Thursday at 8:15 p.m. in Municipal Auditorium against Emporia State.

Alex North broke a 62-all tie with 3:20 remaining on a 3-pointer from the corner and then pushed Washburn's lead to five on the Ichabods' next possession in a jumper off the glass en route to a career-high 13 points in his first start of the season.

The Ichabods led by eight with 1:38 to go after a free throw by Jeff Reid while Mitch Allen added one free throw of his own. A lay up by Cedric Riddle, Jr. cut the Ichabod lead to two at 69-67 sitting up the potential game-winner by the Blue Tigers which went off the rim.

Five different Ichabods scored in double figures led by De'Andre Washington followed by North's 13 scoring 11 in the second half. Brandon Scaife scored a career-high 11 points as well. Jeff Reid had 11 and Jadarren Mumpfield scored 10. Washington and Mumpfield each had seven assists with Washington collecting a team-high six rebounds.

Riddle scored 26 points on 10 of 13 shooting and Pierre DeClue scored 14 to pace the Blue Tigers.

Washburn shot 62 percent from the field hitting 28 of 45 from the field while the Blue Tigers were 27 of 46 hitting 59 percent in the game.

The Ichabods were playing without Logan Stutz, who was out with an injury and Bobby Chipman, who will miss the remainder of the season with his knee injury suffered last week.

The Ichabod win over Lincoln  . . .
improved the Ichabods to 18-8 overall and 15-7 in the MIAA … gave the Ichabods their 20th straight win over Lincoln …  was Washburn's eighth straight win over Lincoln in Jefferson City … gave the Ichabods their first 18-win season since the 2007-08 season … made the Ichabods 1,404-971 all-time … lock up the third seed in the upcoming MIAA Tournament setting up an 8:15 p.m. game on Thursday night in Municipal Auditorium.
