Game 1 - MSSU 9 WU 0 (5 innings) | Game 2 - MSSU 9, WU 1 (5 innigs) | Season Stats

JOPLIN, Mo. -- The Washburn Lady Blues fell in a pair of 5-inning games at Missouri Southern on Saturday falling 9-0 and 9-1 dropping to 12-22 overall and 3-9 in MIAA play. Washburn will take part in the April MIAA Crossover starting on Friday in Kirksville, Mo.

In the opener, Missouri Southern (19-16, 4-4 MIAA) did the majority of its damage in the third inning building on a 1-0 lead by sending 13 batters to the plate scoring eight runs on eight hits, which was more than enough offense for the Lions as Washburn was limited to two hits by Lions starter Nicole Reed. Lauren Himpel picked up a third inning single while Britny Cushing led off the fifth with a single.  The Lions chased Washburn starter Kelsie Novotny (7-10) in the third inning.

In the second game the Lions sent Reed back to the circle where she had a perfect game going through 4 and 1/3 innings until Cusing ended the no-no with a home run to left. Reed (15-4) struck out eight in the second game. The Lions scored four in the bottom of the first sending 10 to the plate and added four more in the second inning before adding a solo run in the fifth inning.
