TOPEKA, Kan. - Brianna Lewis slammed down 10 kills and hit .444 to help power Washburn to a 25-17, 25-13, 25-18 win over Abilene Christian in the final match Friday in the Ramada Inn Lady Blues Fall Classic in Lee Arena.
The fifth-ranked Lady Blues (14-1) will continue action Saturday with a 1 p.m. match against Tarleton State and a 5 p.m. top-25 match against No. 20 Angelo State. The Rambelles joined Washburn as the only other team to go 2-0 Friday.
Lewis also had two blocks and
Mollie Lacy assisted on three but Washburn was out-blocked, 8-5 by the Wildcats. The Lady Blues overcame it with nine service aces, including five by
Kelsey Lewis and three from
Hillary Hughes.
Abby Wittman had a double-double for Washburn with 27 assists and 12 digs.
Kelsey Lewis led the back row with 17 digs.
The Lady Blues hit .214 as a team while ACU was held to a .019 percentage.
Washburn was in control throughout the first and second sets.
Kelsey Lewis got Washburn off to a strong start in the second set by serving five straight points, including three straight on aces.
After a 4-1 start for the Wildcats in set three, the Lady Blues tied it at 4-4 and 5-5 and then led from then on.
