Weekly Match Notes - Lady Blues to face Missouri Southern and host Western State in weekend action

Scene Setter
The Washburn Lady Blues will hit the road for the final time in the regular season as they travel to Joplin, Mo., to face the Missouri Southern Lions on Friday and then on Sunday they will step out of MIAA play to face Western State at noon in Yager Stadium. Washburn is coming off a 1-1 week after falling to Truman and topping Lindenwood 3-2.

Story lines
• Washburn is -9 in goals overall this season, but +2 in MIAA matches.
• Washburn head coach Tim Collins is 6-6-6 against Missouri Southern and he has never faced Western State.
• Junior Caysie Beetley and senior Leah Talley lead the team with five goals each. Beetley leads the Lady Blues with five assists and 15 points overall.
• Talley has two of the three match-winning goals for Washburn as does fellow senior Tia Stovall.
• Stovall has four goals and senior Lindsey Lambert and freshmen Carlee Seitz, Whitney Skinner and junior Lara Doescher have also scored goals this season.
• Sophomore Tori Fuglister has played 1088 minutes in goal allowing 21 goals with 73 saves and a 1.74 goal against average.
• Fuglister picked up her first shutout win in the victory over Emporia State earlier this season. Sophomore Jenna Lack picked up the win over Nebraska-Kearney in the 7-1 victory.
• Washburn has been outshot this season 205 to 146.
• Talley is tied for second in the Washburn program's history with six match-winning goals … her 42 career points is sixth all-time at Washburn and her eight assists is tied for ninth all-time for the Lady Blues.
• Stovall is third all-time with 16 career assists and tied for second with six match-winning goals …her 38 career points is eighth all-time at Washburn.
• Senior Tia Stovall was a second team all-MIAA pick for the third season in a row.
• Senior Leah Talley was an honorable mention all-MIAA pick in 2011 and 2010 after earning second team all-MIAA honors as a freshman.
• Lady Blues assistant coach Kaney Tyler was a four-year letterwinner for Missouri Southern and holds the Lions' career records for goalkeeper minutes played, shutouts, saves, wins, goal against average and was the MIAA's MVP as a sophomore.

Last time out for the Lady Blues (10/14/2012)
TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Lady Blues recorded three goals in the second half picking up a 3-2 win over Lindenwood in the first meeting between the two schools.
After a scoreless first half, Lindenwood scored first in the 54th minute when Courtney Bresnahan scored her sixth goal of the season for the early lead, however two minutes later, the Lions' goalkeeper Jade Davis was handed a yellow card for a dangerous play against Washburn's Tia Stovall which knocked her out of the game for a while and the Lady Blues were awarded a penalty kick. Lara Doescher scored her first goal at Washburn and tied the score at 1-1.
The Lady Blues added another goal in the 75th minute when Whitney Skinner recorded her first collegiate goal on a breakaway on an assist from Stovall after she returned to put Washburn up 2-1.
Stovall added to the Lady Blues' lead when she put Washburn up 3-1 after an assist from Caysie Beetley from 5-yards out in front of the box on a cross from the right side in the 80th minute.
The Lions added a second goal with 52 seconds remaining in the match when Bresnahan scored her second goal of the day on an assist from Haley Stewart.
Jenna Lack started in goal and played the first 62 minutes of the match but was replaced by Tori Fuglister after suffering an injury after a scrum in front of the Washburn net. Lack recorded five saves in the match and Fuglister had two saves with each allowing a single goal.
Beetley led the Lady Blues with four shots and Stovall had three with all three coming on goal.
Washburn had 10 shots on goal compared to nine for the Lions, but were outshot overall 17 to 15. Lindenwood was whistled for seven fouls in the match and the one yellow card while the Lady Blues were called for two.    

About Missouri Southern
• The Lions are 3-8-2 overall and 3-4-1 in MIAA play.
• The Lions lost at Southwestern Oklahoma last time out on Oct. 14 3-0. In their last MIAA match on Oct. 7, the Lions tied SBU 1-1 in double overtime.
• Megan Stueve has nine of the Lions 18 goals this season and two match-winning goals.
• Abby Risner has started 10 matches and has a 2.29 goal against average.

Series history with Missouri Southern
• The series is tied 6-6-6 in 18 all-time meetings.
• The Lady Blues lost the last meeting 2-0 on Oct. 11 in Topeka last season.
• Washburn is 2-3-3 all-time in matches played in Joplin.
• Washburn has outscored the Lions 18 to 16.
• Washburn's last win over the Lions came on Nov. 5, 2009 in Joplin in a 3-2 win.
• Four of the eight matches played in Joplin have gone into overtime.

Last Meeting with the Lions (Oct. 11, 2011)
TOPEKA, Kan. - The Washburn Lady Blues were blanked 2-0 by Missouri Southern in MIAA action Tuesday night in Yager Stadium.
Washburn (1-10-2, 1-3-1 MIAA) fell behind after the Lions' Cortney Sanders scored her first goal of the season in the 11th minute on an assist from Corninne Tebbs off a corner kick. The goal was the only one of the first half.
In the second half, the Lions added another goal in the 75th minute when Megan Stueve scored her fourth goal of the season on a breakaway on an assist from Kelly White.
Missouri Southern outshot the Lady Blues 10-9 after the Lady Blues outshot the Lions 7-4 in the second half, but could not put any past the Lions' Abby Risner.
Lauren Henry had three shots for the Lady Blues while Leah Talley recorded two.   

About Western State
• Western State is 0-12 in its first season of fielding a soccer team.
• The Mountaineers have been outscored 30 to 5 and have been outshot 264 to 69.
• Elyza Montano has three of the Mountaineers' five goals this season.
• Meghan Jedrezejewski has a 2.69 goal against average in net for Western State.

Series history with Western State
• Sunday's meeting will be the first between the two teams.
