Scene Setter
The Washburn Lady Blues soccer team will open the 2012 campaign spending a weekend in Springfield, Mo., where they will face host squad Drury and former MIAA member Missouri S&T. Washburn will take on Drury on Aug. 31 while they will battle the Lady Miners for the first time since the 2004 season when Missouri S&T (formerly Missouri-Rolla) was a member of the MIAA. The Lady Blues are aiming to rebound from a 1-14-3 season in 2011.

About Drury
The Drury women's soccer squad has been picked to finish seventh in the Great Lakes Valley Conference preseason poll and will face Washburn in its first match of the season. Head coach Alf Bilbao's Panthers are coming off an 8-8-2 season that included a 4-1-1 mark in their final six games of 2011. Drury returns four of its top six scorers from last season in sophomore Emily Cline (six goals, six assists), sophomore Shelby Hatz (three goals), junior Lindsey Sprouse (three goals, one assist) and junior Kara Steiner (three goals, three assists).

The meeting on Aug. 31 will be the first between the Lady Blues and the Panthers.
About Missouri S&T
The Missouri S&T women's soccer team has been picked to finish 11th in the Great Lakes Valley Conference's pre-season coaches poll as announced by the conference. S&T returns 17 letterwinners but just six starters from last year's squad that finished 5-9-2 overall and 5-9-1 in league play.
Series history with Missouri S&T
The Lady Miners lead the all-time series 2-1-1 and the two schools have not met since the Lady Blues won 1-0 on Oct. 31, 2004 in Topeka. MS&T has outscored the Lady Blues 4-3 in the four matches the teams have played.

Last Meeting with the Lady Miners
(Oct. 31, 2004) – TOPEKA, Kan. -- Jenna Lawless scored the match winner on an assist from Lauren Schwindt in the 79th minute as the Lady Blues picked up a 1-0 Halloween Day win. The win lifted the Lady Blues to 5-9-3 on the season and 3-6-2 in the MIAA. Jenna Hatlestad picked up the win in net for the Lady Blues collecting four saves. Washburn outshot the Lady Miners 13 to 8 and 7 to 4 in shots on goal.
