JOPLIN, Mo. – A 21-9 run to start the second half by Missouri Southern was all the host squad needed as the No. 22-ranked Ichabods lost their seventh-straight game in Joplin in a 110-73 loss falling for the first time this season.
Washburn (8-1, 1-1 MIAA) trailed by as many as 40 in the second half as the Lions (7-1, 2-0 MIAA) became the first team in 88 games to reach the 100-point mark since Missouri Western scored 103 in a 103-82 win on Dec. 19, 2010.
The Ichabods trailed 47-40 at the break after back to back 3-pointers by the Lions Austin Wright with under a minute to play in the half. The Ichabods struggled from the free throw line going 9 of 16 while the Lions converted 11 of 15 attempts. Drane scored 11 of his points in the first half going 5 of 7 from the line in the half.
Kyle Wiggins led the Ichabods with 14 points and Drane finished with 11 and
Leon Flowers scored 10 off the bench.
Austin Wright scored 23 points going 8 of 8 from the field and 7 of 7 from 3-point range to lead the Lions and Jordan Talbert scored 20 points as six Missouri Southern players in double figures.
Washburn finished 40 percent from the field for the game but went 8 of 29 from the field in the second half while the Lions were 23 of 44 including an 8 of 14 performance from behind the 3-point arc.
Washburn also had 19 turnovers leading to 23 points for the Lions.
The Ichabods will be back in action on Dec. 19 against Lincoln back in Topeka after finals.
