PITTSBURG, Kan. – The fifth-ranked Ichabods scored the final four points of a tight match to sweep Pittsburg State 25-23, 25-23, 25-21 Friday evening and win their sixth straight.

Washburn improved to 16-1 overall and 8-1 in the MIAA to keep pace with the other two teams tied for the top spot in the conference. The Bods will resume their road trip Saturday at 3 p.m. at Southwest Baptist.

Marissa Cox hit .406 and had 17 kills to lead the Ichabods.
Leanna Willer had 10 kills and
Korie Thompson had seven kills and 12 digs.

Thompson had the final two kills of the match for the Ichabods. The Gorillas (5-12, 2-7) had scored three straight to tie the set at 21-21. Cox then had a kill to break the tie and Willer served an ace. Thompson then set down the final two points.

The Ichabods out-hit Pitt State in all three sets but there were 27 total ties and nine lead changes in the match. The Gorillas led 20-19 in the first set, 17-16 in the second set and 15-14 in the third set but could never hold on.

Alyssa Carney led the Washburn back row with 17 digs and
Natalie Bates set 38 assists. She added six digs and a pair of kills.
Sarah Vicory had a hand up on four of Washburn's seven blocks.

Washburn hit .195 in the match while the Gorillas had a .124 attack. The Gorillas edged Washburn 62-58 in digs but the Bods led in kills, 44-35. Paula Okrutna led PSU with 11 kills.
