Hot shooting and rebounding lead to win on road for 18th-ranked Ichabods

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Ichabods shot 53 percent from the field and out-rebounded Oklahoma Christian by 20 in an 81-66 win Tuesday evening.
 
Washburn, ranked 18th in this week's USA Today Sports national poll, improved to 5-0 and will play its final road, non-conference game Saturday at 3 p.m. at Newman.
 
Taylor Ignoto had her second straight 20-point game after getting a career-high 28 points last Saturday against Drury. She was 7 of 8 from the field and she made all three 3-pointers for an even 20 points. Last year against the Eagles in Topeka she had 21 points with a 6 of 7 performance from 3-point range.
 
Casyn Buchman was 5 of 9 from the field and 7 of 7 from the free throw line for 17 points. Honor Duvall scored 12 points in the post before fouling out.
 
The Ichabods led the entire way and had a 47-27 advantage in rebounding. They shot 20 of 25 from the free throw line while OC was 15 of 22 from the line. The Eagles (2-3) had 10 steals and took advantage of 25 Washburn turnovers. They committed just 12 of their own.
 
The Ichabods shot 55 percent in the first half (16 of 29) and made 4 of 6 3-pointers. They out-rebounded the Eagles 27-9 in the opening half and kept OC to 31 percent shooting. The Bods led 32-20 with 9:11 to go in the half after Duvall hit a pair of free throws. The Eagles then scored nine straight points in just over a minute to pull within three points. They forced four Washburn turnovers during that stretch.
 
Washburn responded by ending the half on a 15-4 run. The Bods held the Eagles to 1 of 10 shooting that final 7:59 and led 47-33 at halftime. They out-scored Oklahoma Christian by just a point in the second half but never allowed the Eagles to get closer than 11 points down the final 20 minutes. The Bods had a game-high 23-point lead at the 11:46 mark after a 6-0 run.
 
Jayna Smith and Felisha Gibbs each had nine rebounds off the bench to lead Washburn. Smith added nine points and Gibbs had eight. Buchman led Washburn with four assists and Smith had three.
 
McKenzie Stanford led the Eagles with 25 points. She was 8 of 19 from the field and 8 of 11 from the line. She added a team-high five rebounds.
