Ichabods improve to 6-0 with 28-point win at Newman

WICHITA, Kan. – Taylor Ignoto had her third straight 20-point game and the Ichabods will enter MIAA play undefeated as they topped Newman 75-47 Saturday afternoon in Fugate Gymnasium.
 
No. 18 Washburn improved to 6-0 and will return home to host Southwest Baptist Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Schendel Court in Lee Arena.
 
Ignoto shot 6 of 10 from the field and 3 of 7 from 3-point range as she led all scorers with 21 points. She shot 6 of 6 from the free throw line. Ignoto has scored in double figures in all six games and she reached that point by halftime for the second straight game.
 
Casyn Buchman was 4 of 8 from the field, making all four baskets from long range, as she had 14 points. Erika Lane had her first double-figure scoring game with 11 points off the bench. She was 4 of 6 from the field.
 
The Bods trailed early at 6-4 but went on a 14-2 run to take an 18-8 lead. Ignoto scored 11 of those points during the run. Washburn ended the half up 39-22 and then shot 54 percent in the second half to keep the pressure on the Jets (2-3). The Jets scored the first points of the second half to pull within 16 but Washburn quickly pushed its lead above 20 and kept it that way the rest of the game. The Bods had a game-high 30-point lead at 63-33 with 7:56 to play.
 
The Ichabods ended the game shooting 50 percent from the field and 47 percent from long range. Newman shot 33 percent overall and 17 percent from 3-point range.
 
Dana Channel led Washburn with eight rebounds and Allyssa Nikkel had six. Janelle Travis had a game-high five assists. The Ichabods won the rebound battle, 46-24.
 
Newman didn't have a scorer in double figures. Mali Wright led the Jets with seven points and Kesha Buckner had six rebounds.
