Balanced offense gives Ichabods quick win over Southwest Baptist

TOPEKA, Kan. – The Ichabods spread the ball around and hit .378 as a team in a 25-17, 25-13, 25-10 sweep over Southwest Baptist Saturday at Schendel Court in Lee Arena.
 
Washburn improved to 23-5 overall and 15-5 in the MIAA and remained at least fifth in the conference standings as teams finished their matches Saturday. The 13th-ranked Ichabods will continue action at home Tuesday at 7 p.m. when they host Fort Hays State.
 
Sarah Vicory led Washburn with 10 kills and she hit .562 with an error in 16 attacks. Marissa Cox and Leanna Willer had seven kills each and Cox had a match-high five blocks. Carley Swan added four blocks as Washburn totaled 13 and kept the Bearcats (9-19, 4-16 MIAA) without a block.
 
Natalie Bates had her fifth double-double in the last six matches as she had 22 assists and 10 digs. Alyssa Carney and Willer each had 12 digs to lead the defense. McKenzie Hartzog had two of Washburn's six service aces. Four different Ichabods came off the bench and got at least three kills in the match.
 
SBU only hit positive in the second set. They hit .000 in the first set and -.028 in the third set. Washburn hit over .320 in all three sets and never trailed. The Bods jumped out to leads of 4-0 in the first set, 8-1 in the second set and 8-1 in the third set. The Bearcats where within three of Washburn late in the first set at 20-17 but Washburn ended that set on a 5-0 run to take a 1-0 match lead. The Bearcats committed attack errors on all five points.
 
Washburn led in kills, 39-28 and in digs, 48-42. Mackynzi Gibson led the Bearcats with eight kills and Hannah Blount had 18 digs at libero.
