LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Ichabods shot 54 percent in the second half and were outscored by just three in a 78-58 loss Sunday at Kansas in both teams' final exhibition games.

Washburn will tip off the regular season Saturday at 11 a.m. at Puerto Rico-Bayamon after going 1-1 in exhibition games.

Honor Duvall led the Ichabods with 14 points as she was 6 of 11 from the field. She helped Washburn keep even with the Division I Jayhawks as both teams scored 32 points in the paint.
Emily Gamble led Washburn's bench with nine points with a 4 of 8 performance from the field. The Washburn bench out-scored KU's 33-24.

Washburn was 15 of 28 from the field in the second half and was able to cut KU's 17-point halftime lead down to 13 twice. The first time came at the end of a 12-5 Washburn run that cut Kansas' lead to 53-40 with 11:55 to play. Washburn cut it to 13 one more time near the halfway point of the half but went over four minutes without a field goal after that.

The Jayhawks won the rebound battle, 45-37 but committed 19 turnovers while Washburn had 16. The Ichabods were 1 of 10 from 3-point range while KU was 3 of 11. KU finished 31 of 42 (74 percent) from the free throw line and Washburn shot 74 percent at 17 of 23.

The Ichabods shot just 5 of 34 (15 percent) in the first half but kept within reach by making 10 of 12 free throws and grabbing 19 rebounds. The Jayhawks had 25 rebounds and made 11 of 18 free throws. They shot 55 percent (12 of 22) and made a pair of 3-pointers.

Felisha Gibbs made two free throws at 17:21 to tie the score at 4-4 but Kansas went on a 7-0 run after that and led the rest of the way.

Natalie Knight led Kansas with 21 points and Chelsea Gardner had 20 with a team-high nine rebounds. They each made eight free throws.
