Honor Duvall had a career-high scoring game and
Dana Channel had a career-high in rebounds as Washburn won its season opener, 65-46 Saturday afternoon at Puerto Rico-Bayamon.
The Ichabods will continue action on the island Sunday at 11 a.m. Central against Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras. That game will also be played at UPRB's gym.
Duvall shot 10 of 17 from the field and hit two free throws for a career-high 22 points. She also grabbed five offensive rebounds and four on the defensive end for nine total boards, putting her one short of a double-double.
Channel topped her previous career high by one with 12 rebounds to lead all players.
Taylor Ignoto led the Washburn bench with 13 points as she was 5 of 12 from the field.
Casyn Buchman hit four field goals for nine points and she had a game-high three assists.
Janelle Travis made two of the three 3-pointers the team made to help her to eight points.
Jayna Smith came off the bench to score six points and grab four rebounds.
Emily Gamble had six rebounds. Those two players were making their Washburn debuts.
Washburn shot 52 percent in the first half and led 37-25 af the half. The Ichbods ended the game shooting 41 percent from the field and 18 percent (3 of 17) from 3-point range. They were 10 of 16 from the free throw line.
The Vaqueras shot 30 percent overall and were 2 of 18 from long range and also 10 of 16 from the free throw line. They did not have a player score in double figures.
