TOPEKA, Kan. –
Honor Duvall and
Casyn Buchman each scored in double figures as 11th-ranked Washburn defeated Southwestern (Kan.) 71-49 Monday night at Schendel Court in Lee Arena.

The Ichabods improved to 8-1 overall and will return to MIAA action with two games on the road later this week. They'll be at Lincoln Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and then Lindenwood Saturday at 1 p.m.

Buchman was 6 of 11 from the field and she hit three 3-pointers and pulled in six rebounds. Duvall shot 7 of 11 and had three rebounds. Ally Nikkel had a career-high eight assists to tie for the 10th-highest single-game total by an Ichabod in school history.

Dana Channel led the Ichabods with seven rebounds and
Felisha Gibbs had five.
Jharian Bowen scored eight points off the bench and
Erika Lane had seven. Reserves
Emily Gamble and
Cindy Demosthene each had six points.

Taylor Ignoto, who had scored in double figures in each of Washburn's first eight games, sat out with an injury.
The Ichabods shot 41 percent as a team while the Lady Builders had 40 percent shooting. Washburn won the rebound battle, 44-26 and had 11 turnovers while Southwestern had 20.

Washburn trailed early, 14-9 after a 7-2 Southwestern run. A 3-pointer from Buchman later tied the game at 14 and then the Bods took the lead for good at 9:01 on a jumper from Gamble. They led 34-25 at halftime and then out-shot the Builders by 13 points in the second half. Washburn had a game-high 26-point lead at the one-minute mark of the game.

Southwestern was playing the game as an exhibition and remains 6-5 on the year. No Moundbuilder scored in double figures. Jana Reichenberger led her team with eight points and Tiffany Reiger had seven.

Washburn and Southwestern met in Topeka for the ninth straight year and Washburn has won all those meetings and 11 straight in the series.
