Ichabods give up late 8-0 run in back and forth loss at Lindenwood

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The 16th and final lead change Saturday came as Lindenwood ended the game on an 8-0 run to beat eighth-ranked Washburn 70-64 at Hyland Arena.

The Ichabods fell to 9-2 overall and 2-2 in the MIAA and will take 10 days off before playing a New Year's Eve matinee at 1 p.m. against St. Mary (Kan.).

The Ichabods were out-rebounded for the first time this year, 47-35 and they shot 35 percent while the Lions (7-3, 1-3 MIAA) shot 44 percent. Despite those numbers, Washburn led 64-62 with 2:54 to play. The Lions scored the final eight points of the game after that as Washburn missed six straight shots.

Taylor Ignoto matched her career high with 23 points as she went 8 of 15 from the field. She's scored in double figures in all 10 of her games and she reached the 20-point mark for the fourth time this year. Ignoto also scored 23 points last year in Washburn's home loss to Lindenwood.

Casyn Buchman went 5 of 13 from the field for 13 points and Honor Duvall had eight. Jayna Smith scored seven points and had six rebounds off the bench. Duvall's eight rebounds led the team.

Of the 16 lead changes, 10 came in the first half. Neither team led by more than five in the opening 10 minutes.

The Lions built the biggest lead of the game, 39-33 as Kassidy Gengenbacher scored the first Lion points of the second half. Washburn answered with a 7-0 run and maintained a small lead for most of the half after that until Lindenwood's 8-0 run ended the game.

Gengenbacher ended the game with 28 points as she was 8 of 18 from the field and 9 of 9 from the free throw line. Vanessa Zailo pulled in 15 rebounds.

Washburn entered the week third in the nation with a +17.8 rebounding margin. The Bods recorded double-digit advantages in rebounds in all but two games before Saturday.
