Ichabods and Hornets play to double overtime tie

EMPORIA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabod soccer team snapped a four-game losing streak with a 1-1 double overtime tie at Emporia State on Friday. Washburn will be back in action on Sunday at Nebraska-Kearney.

The Hornets jumped out to an early lead in the match in the 16th minute when Grace Linton scored unassisted and the score remain 1-0 with ESU leading at the break. ESU outshot the Ichabods 10-4 in the first half.

In the second stanza, Devon Schmitz scored her first goal of the season in the 59th minute off an assist from Sara Specht who recorded her second assist of the season tying the score.

Kaitlin Minnich came into the match to start the second half for her first collegiate action and picked up four saves while facing 14 shots.

Washburn was outshot 24 to 9 in the match as the Hornets picked up seven shots on goal compared to the Ichabods. The match also had 19 fouls called with 10 being whistled on the Hornets. 

Kelly Schunk had four shots to lead the Ichabod attack.

Washburn's record in overtime matches moved to 9-10-30 when matches go into extra minutes.
