KEARNEY, Neb. -- The Washburn Ichabod soccer team played to its second consecutive 1-1 double overtime tie at Nebraska-Kearney on Sunday. Washburn will wrap up the regular season starting on Friday at Emporia State before returning home on Nov. 1 facing Fort Hays State.
The Lopers broke a scoreless tie at the half 54 seconds into the second half when Reina Horikawa scored inside the box on an assist from Kelsie Ienn.
Washburn tied the score in the 61st minute when
Emily Stauffer recorded her third goal of the season off an assist from
Paige Swanson when she found the back of the net from 17-yards out tying the score at 1-1-.
Neither team scored the rest of the way sending the match to overtime. Washburn outshot the Lopers 5 to 1 in the two overtime periods including 3 to 0 in the second extra period.
In the match, the Lopers had an 11 to 7 shot advantage.
Kaitlin Minnich had eight saves in net for the Ichabods.
Swanson finished with two shots on goal and Stauffer and
Whitney Skinner also recorded shots on goal.
The tie moves the Ichabods' record to 4-7-5 overall and 3-4-2 in the MIAA standings. Washburn is tied for eighth in the MIAA race with Lindenwood and Nebraska-Kearney with 11 points trailing Missouri Western and Emporia State who each have 13 points. Washburn will face Emporia State on Sunday and then take on Fort Hays State who had 15 points entering the final weekend of the year. The top eight in the final standings will advance to the MIAA Tournament.
