Ichabod tennis team announces early signing class of five

TOPEKA, Kan. – Washburn head men's and women's tennis coach Lance Lysaught has announced five early signings as part of the Ichabods' 2016-17 recruiting class.
 
"The 2016-17 recruiting class is very strong with several three-star recruits in the mix," said third-year head coach Lance Lysaught. "We are proud of the depth and talent of this group. Assistant coach Chance Joost and I cannot wait to begin training and further developing these dynamic players. I have very high hopes for the group and feel confident they will contribute to our improving results and lofty vision for the Washburn tennis teams."
 
Men's tennis team signees
Chase Brill • 6-0 • 160 • R • Singles/Doubles • Edmond, Okla. • Edmond Memorial HS
Expected to graduate in May 2016 … has not completed senior season … won state title in doubles as a sophomore as team finished third … as a junior, finished fifth in singles at state and team was runner-up … played soccer as a freshman … son of Molly and John Brill … has one sister, Addison … his father, John, competed collegiately at the University of Elon … plans to major in business (marketing).
 
Lysaught on Brill: "Chase is an exciting addition to the team because of his passion to improve. Chase has shown a good skill set and steady progression in the rankings. We look for him to continue his development here at Washburn and contribute to the lofty goals we have set as a team."
 

Tommy Hunter • 6-0 • 165 • R • Singles/Doubles • Topeka, Kan. • Hayden HS
Expected to graduate in May 2016 … has not completed senior season … three-year letterwinner in tennis … three-time state, regional, league and city champion … went 33-2 as a freshman in 2012-13, 24-2 in 2013-14 as a sophomore and 31-2 as a junior in 2014-15 … son of Tina and Shane Hunter … has one brother, Blake, and two sisters, Paige and Brooklyn … his brother, Blake, is currently a member of the WU tennis team … plans to major in pre-engineering.
 
Lysaught on Hunter: " Washburn is excited to add the other brother from the Hunter family to the roster, joining Blake Hunter on the team. Tommy has been a strong competitor in the Missouri Valley for years, is currently a three-star recruit, and we cannot wait to see the impact he will have for the men's tennis team as his game continues to develop. Most importantly I see Tommy joining the team and bringing more depth to our current squad. It will be awesome to see Tommy and Blake battling together for the Ichabods."
 

Women's tennis team signees
Jacqueline Engelbrecht • 5-7 • R • Singles/Doubles • Joplin, Mo. • Homeschool
Expected to graduate in May 2016 … took third in singles and first in doubles at June 2015 futures tournament …  was named the Missouri Valley Female Player of the Year in 2012 … finished at No. 1 in Missouri Valley for past five years … won back-to-back futures tournaments in 2012 … was given the 2010 Missouri Valley Sportsmanship Award … daughter of Jay and Sharon Engelbrecht … has two siblings, Madeleine (sister) and Miles (brother) … her mother, Sharon, played basketball at William Woods … plans to major in kinesiology.
 
Lysaught on Engelbrecht: "Jacqueline brings a ton of experience and a well-rounded game to the women's team. She is a three-star recruit that has shown her considerable talent for years in the USTA rankings. She will be an important part of our team chemistry and the vision we have for our women's team."
 

Madison Lysaught • 5-4 • R • Singles/Doubles • Topeka, Kan. • Shawnee Heights HS
Expected to graduate in May 2016 … four-year letterwinner in tennis … qualified for state tournament all four seasons … placed 13th at state in doubles as a freshman … took 11th in singles at state during sophomore season … placed ninth in singles at state during junior season … finished fourth in singles at state during senior year … daughter of Alisa and Lance Lysaught … has five siblings, Mallory (sister), Madeline (sister), Miriam (sister), John (brother) and Melanie (sister) … her father, Lance, is the head men's and women's tennis coach at Washburn … plans to major in kinesiology.
 
Lysaught on Lysaught: "Madison is a hard worker who brings a high-level of consistency to the Bod Squad. I believe Madison can be a solid contributor as her game develops and she matures as a tennis player. I am proud to have Madison on the women's team."
  

Logan Morrissey • 5-8 • R • Singles/Doubles • Lee's Summit, Mo. • Lee's Summit North HS
Expected to graduate in May 2016 … four-year letterwinner in tennis … four-time qualifier for state tournament … finished sixth in doubles as a freshman at state and team finished third … in sophomore season, too second in doubles and team won state championship … broke Missouri record for most wins with same doubles partner (87-12 record) as a junior … took second place at state doubles in 2014-15 … finished fourth in state as a senior and was a district champion … holds an above-4.0 GPA entering the final semester of his senior year … German National Honors Society … born in Kansas City, Mo. … daughter of Rob and Christi Morissey … has one brother, Reid … plans to major in biology.
 
Lysaught on Morrissey: ""Logan brings a world of talent and a big time forehand to the Women's team. Logan is another three-star recruit with potential to be a superstar here at Washburn. I look for her to contribute greatly in singles and doubles."
