JOPLIN, Mo. -- The Washburn Ichabods wrapped up the calendar year with a 92-72 loss at Missouri Southern. The Ichabods will return to action after the new year hosting Lindenwood on Jan. 2 in Lee Arena.
The Ichabods trailed 47-31 at the break after the Lions hit 8 of 21 shots from 3-point range jumping out to a 16-point lead.
Javion Blake scored eight in the opening half as 13 of the 14 Ichabods in uniform saw action in the first half. Overall the Ichabods werw 12 of 33 while the Lions were 17 of 36.
In the second half, the Ichabods were held to 2 of 13 over the first 10 minutes of the half compared to the Lions going 9 of 16, including 3 of 6 from 3-point range opening a 33-point lead with 9:55 to play in the game.
Washburn used a 21-3 run over a three-minute stretch trimming lead to 78-59 with 5:42 to go in the game as Wiggins scored 11 during the run as Washburn hit 7 of 9 shots from the field.
Washburn cut the lead to 16 with 4:22 to play but would not get any closer.
Wiggins led the Ichabods with 20 points and
Randall Smith scored 12 with four assists.
Brady Skeens scored 11 adding four rebounds and two blocks while Blake scored 11.
The Lions were led by Taevaunn Prince's 21 points pacing five Lions in double figures.
Washburn (7-3, 3-2 MIAA) finished 25 of 63 from the field and 19 of 28 from the free throw line in the game. The Lions (8-4, 5-1 MIAA) finished 29 of 65 for a 45 percent clip hitting 21 of 28 free throws. The Lions also held a 49 to 33 advantage on the glass turning 15 offensive rebounds into 19 second chance points.
