HAYS, Kan. -- The Washburn women's basketball team was down 19 with under 10 minutes to go and cut the margin down to four but could not get any closer in a 74-67 loss to No. 5 Fort Hays State. Washburn returns to action on Saturday at home against No. 13-ranked Emporia State.
The Ichabods trailed the Tigers 52-33 with 12:39 to play in the game and Washburn used a 26-12 run over a 8:57 to cut the Fort Hays State advantage to five at 64-59 with 3:42 to go as
Taylor Ignoto scored 15 points during the stretch for the Ichabods.
After a pair of free throws by the Tigers,
Erika Lane hit a 3-pointer cutting the lead to four with 2:39 to go in the game but the Tigers would outscore the Ichabods 8-5 the remainder of the game holding on for the seven-point win.
Washburn trailed 34-25 at the break after hitting 10 of 34 shots in the frame going 1 of 9 from 3-point range.
Ignoto finished with 24 points to lead Washburn and
Honor Duvall scored 16. The Tigers finished 32 of 36 from the free throw line hitting all 14 attempts in the first half. Washburn was 11 of 17 from the free throw line overall.
Washburn outrebounded the Tigers 44 to 32 in the game outscoring the Tigers 42 to 40 in the second half.
