EMPORIA, Kan. -- The Ichabods tied the game in the final seconds of the first half but shot 24 percent in the second half in a 62-55 loss Wednesday night at sixth-ranked Emporia State.

Washburn suffered its first two-game losing streak of the year and fell to 14-7 and 6-7 in the MIAA while the Lady Hornets improved to 18-2 and 11-2. The Ichabods will return to action Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at Nebraska-Kearney.

Jayna Smith had her first double-double of the year with 11 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. She shot 4 of 8 from the field and had three steals.
Honor Duvall shot 7 of 13 from the field and led all players with 17 points.
Casyn Buchman scored 12 points and Ally Nikkel led the bench with five points and six rebounds.

The Ichabods used a 6-0 run midway through the first half to get within three at 20-17 and then they ended the half with Buchman scoring three straight points to tie the game. She hit a layup with 1:11 remaining and then a free throw with 12 scoring to send both teams to the locker room tied at 28-28.

The Lady Hornets started the second half on a 7-0 run and kept Washburn scoreless until the 16:20 mark. The Ichabods trailed by a game-high 11 points with 13:21 remaining but cut it to six two minutes later and then to five with 7:58 to play.

Two Duvall free throws got Washburn within six points at 61-55 with 1:12 to play but the Ichabods didn't score again.

The Ichabods shot 24 percent (8 for 33) in the second half while the Lady Hornets shot 42 percent (10 for 24). ESU ended the game 38 percent while Washburn was 31 percent. The Bods were 0 of 13 from 3-point range while ESU connected on five treys. Each team made 15 free throws.

The Ichabods led in rebounding, 42-38 and had 11 turnovers while the Lady Hornets had 12. Emporia State blocked 12 Washburn shots with Merissa Quick getting a hand on seven of them. Kelly Motten led the Lady Hornets with 15 points while Quick had 14.
