Ignoto leads charged Ichabod offense to win at UNK

KEARNEY, Neb. - The Ichabods ended the first half Saturday at Nebraska-Kearney on a 16-5 run and then shot 61 percent in the second half on the way to an 84-67 win and a season sweep over the Lopers.
 
Washburn improved to 15-7 overall and 7-7 in the MIAA. The Ichabods will return to Schendel Court in Lee Arena Thursday at 5:30 p.m. to host Central Oklahoma.
 
Taylor Ignoto was 6 of 9 from the field in the first half and she hit three 3-pointers for 18 points. She added seven more points in the second half for a career-high 25 points.
 
Honor Duvall shot 8 of 11 from the field for 18 points and she added 11 rebounds for her second double-double this year. Jayna Smith was 6 of 9 from the field for 12 points and Janelle Travis scored 15 points off the bench. She was 6 of 13 from the field with three 3-pointers. Casyn Buchman led Washburn with seven assists.
 
The Ichabods ended the game shooting 52 percent from the field while the Lopers were 33 percent. Washburn won the rebound battle 41-30 and had assists on 21 made baskets while the Lopers had seven assists.
 
Washburn extended its 12-point halftime lead to a 20-point margin three minutes into the second half. The Ichabods kept a double-digit lead until UNK went on a 9-0 run to get within nine at 52-61 with 9:45 remaining. The Ichabods called a timeout and then Ignoto answered with a 3-pointer to put their lead back into double-digits for good.
 
The Lopers were within 10 points with 8:09 to play before Washburn went on an 11-0 run to take a game-high 21-point lead with 3:42 to play. The lead was quickly cut to 12 points on a 9-0 UNK run but Buchman scored five points in the final minutes to lock up the win.
 
Buchman's 3-pointer with 30 seconds left pushed her into the top 10 in career 3-point shooting at Washburn. She now has 108 and is tied with Jennifer Harris (2004-06).
 
Laramey Lewis led the Lopers with 25 points as she hit four 3-pointers and was 7 of 7 from the free throw line.
