TOPEKA, Kan. – The Washburn soccer team was handed its first home loss of the season this afternoon by the fourth ranked Jennies of Central Missouri in a 3-0 decision.
Central Missouri got onto the board early off of a 10-yard shot from Baylie Edwards inside the fifth minute. 25 minutes later Jada Scott broke away from the Ichabod defense to score her first of two goals in the match. Washburn was unable to gain a rhythm in the first half and headed into the break trailing 0-2.
Washburn turned up its defensive efforts in the second period holding the Jennies to five shots. As time dwindled down Scott managed to find the back of the net for a second time widening Central Missouri's lead to 3-0 where it would stay.
Kaitlin Minnich played every minute on goal for Washburn recorded 8 saves.
Lexi Montgomery and
Lexi Barton led the Ichabods with two shots on goal a piece.
The loss marks the Ichabods first home loss of the season. Washburn falls to 8-5-1 on the season and Central Missouri improves to 12-1.
Up next, Washburn will hit the road for a pair of weekend matches in Missouri against Missouri Western Oct. 21 at 6 p.m. and Northwest Missouri State Oct. 23 at 12:30 p.m.
