TOPEKA, Kan.—The Washburn soccer team could never quite find its rhythm in a 1-0 loss to Emporia State Friday evening at Yager Stadium.
Both teams struggled offensively out of the gate with both teams attempting a combined 11 shots. It was Emporia State's ability to take advantage of an opportunity inside the 24
th minute that made all the difference. Maddie Taylor would find the back of net after a cross from teammate Tiffany Jones to score the lone goal of the match and lift the Hornets over Washburn 1-0.
Morgan El-Attrache led the Ichabods with two shots on goal.
Kaitlin Minnich played every minute in goal for Washburn compiling one save on six shots faced.
Prior to the evenings match Washburn Athletics honored the five seniors of the Washburn Soccer team;
Kate Combs,
Lexi Barton,
Michelle Keleher,
Sophia Sabala, and
Cadence Bourne.
Washburn will return to action on Sunday afternoon when the squad will head to Hays, Kan. for its second meeting and season finale against # 21 Fort Hays State slated for 11 a.m.
