BAYAMON, Puerto Rico -- The Washburn Ichabods trailed for the first time this season by as many as eight points but held off a Northwood charge down the stretch in a 66-64 win improving to 4-0 on the season.
Cameron Wiggins hit a 3-pointer with 28 seconds left in the game to put the Ichabods up four, but Northwood answered with a 3-pointer of its own to pull the Timberwolves back within a point.
The next time down the court, Wiggins was fouled and then hit one of two free throws and Northwood, however they were called for traveling on its last possession and Washburn ran out the remaining time on the clock for the win.
Washburn and Northwood (0-5) were tied at 35 at the break after each team shot above 40 percent in the frame with Washburn hitting 14 of 30 shots for a 47 percent clip compared to 12 of 29 for 41 percent for the Timberwolves.
Washburn improved to 44 percent in the second half while limiting Northwood to 8 fo 24 shooting in the second half in the win.
Washburn was outrebounded in the game 38 to 33 and was forced into 14 turnovers.
Washburn was led by
Javion Blake's 14 points hitting 6 of 9 shots from the field and
Brady Skeens finished with 12 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
David Salach scored 10 points.Â
