BOLIVAR, Mo. -- The Washburn Ichabods came up on the short end of the stick in the longest game in school history since 1986 in a 104-98 triple overtime loss at Southwest Baptist.
In a game which had 19 lead changes and 17 ties, Southwest Baptist took the lead from start to finish in the third overtime outscoring the Ichabods 17-11 in the third extra frame.
Washburn was 2 of 6 from the field in the third overtime as both were 3-pointers while going 5 of 8 from the free throw line. SBU finished just 2 of 4 from the field, but finished 12 of 16 from the free throw line.
SBU pushed out to a lead at 100-92 with 29 seconds to play before
Andy Wilson hit the first of the two 3-pointers in the third overtime, but SBU sealed the game at the line picking up the win.
The game was the first three overtime game by an Ichabod team since a 98-89 win over Pittsburg State on Feb. 14, 1986 in Topeka. It was the fourth overtime game of the season for the Ichabods, one shy of tying the school record.
In a see-saw game in the first half which had seven lead changes and four ties, the Bearcats took a 33-32 lead into the break when Kalund Brown hit a three at the buzzer. The Ichabods built a lead of six at 30-24 with 2:42 to play in the frame before Southwest Baptist (9-11, 4-10 MIAA) finished the half on a 9-2 run. Washburn (12-7, 8-8 MIAA) was 11 of 31 in the half for a 36 percent average while the Bearcats were 12 of 29. SBU hit six 3-pointers compared to a pair for the Ichabods.
Javion Blake led the Ichabods with 23 points leading six players in double figures.
Randall Smith scored 17 followed by
Cameron Wiggins' 16 points.
Robert Christopher had 15 points, Wilson finished with 12 and
Christian Ulsaker finished with 11 hitting all seven free throw attempts adding eight rebounds including five offensive rebounds.
Brian Patterson scored 23 to lead SBU going 9 of 10 from the field.
WU finished 28 of 80 from the field shooting 35 percent after going 6 of 19 in the three overtime periods. SBU was 32 of 76 overall going 7 of 14 in the three extra frames.
SBU was 29 of 43 from the free throw line going 20 of 28 in the overtime periods. Washburn was 34 of 47, 17 of 22 in overtime.

Brady Skeens stretched the lead to eight at 62-54 with 8:27 to play. After a pair of free throws by Josiah Gustafson, the Ichabods ripped off a 19-6 to go up 14 at 74-60 with 3:59 to play in the game.
The Gorillas would get no closer than 11 the rest of the way after a 3-pointer with 1:46 to play as the Ichabods picked up the 12-point win as Washburn (7-2, 3-1 MIAA) won its 14th game in the last 16 meetings over Pittsburg State (7-4, 2-3 MIAA). Washburn was 15 of 21 in the second half from the field scoring 46 points while hitting all six 3-point attempts.
The score was tied 29-29 at the break after the Gorillas led by as many as eight points in the opening stanza at 25-17 with 9:59 to play. However the Ichabods outscored the Gorillas 12-4 the rest of the half to tie the score. Wiggins scored five points during the run for Washburn as the Ichabod defense forced five Gorilla turnovers. Washburn was 11 of 31 for a 36 percent clip in the first half while the Gorillas were 10 of 27 for a 37 percent average.
Wiggins led the Ichabods with a career-high 26 points hitting all six 3-pointers going 8 of 13 from the field overall.

Washburn finished the game shooting 50 percent from the field going 26 of 52 overall hitting 9 of 15 3-point attempts. Washburn outrebounded the Gorillas 40 to 27 overall and outscored Pitt State 28 to 12 in the paint. Last time out for Pittsburg State(Jan. 30, 2016) PITTSBURG -- Justin Pitts scored a game-high 26 points to lead visiting Northwest Missouri State University to an 81-74 victory over Pittsburg State University Saturday (Jan. 30) at John Lance Arena.
The Gorillas (11-10, 6-9 MIAA) trailed the Bearcats (15-5, 12-3 MIAA) by three points, 64-61, with 3:43 to play in the game, but Northwest used a 6-0 run over the next two minutes to take control down the stretch. The Bearcats made 11 of 12 free throws in the final 1:12 to seal the victory.
Chris-Ebou Ndow added 18 points for the Bearcats, while Conner Crooker finished with 17 points. Northwest shot 54 percent from the floor (27 of 50) for the game; and the Bearcats made 20 of 26 free throws in the contest.
Trey Starks had a team-leading 21 points, while Dakota Jones added 20. Jaxon Holden finished with 13 and Josiah Gustafson chipped in with 11 points..
