JOPLIN, Mo. -- The Washburn Ichabods split an MIAA doubleheader at Missouri Southern falling 2-0 before coming back to take the nightcap 7-5.
Game 1 - Missouri Southern 2, Washburn 0Two unearned runs in the third inning were the only runs in the opening game as Washburn fell 2-0.
The Ichabods stranded 11 batters on base in the game and outhit the Lions 9 to 5 in the game.
Ashley Ruder was 3 for 4 and
Sierra Kemp had two hits for the Ichabods and
Samantha Carson fell to 6-6 striking out three scattering five hits giving up two unearned runs.
Game 2 - Washburn 7, Missouri Southern 5The Ichabods took a 3-0 lead after two innings when
Marina Quimby reached on a fielder's error scoring
Megan Stegman who reached on a bunt single.Â
In the second,
Ashley Ruder singled scoring
Haylee Marsteller and then a sac fly by Stegman scored
Lexie Myers who reached on a single to center.
In the sixth inning, the Lions came back with five unearned runs to take a 5-3 lead.
But Washburn rallied with four runs of its own going up 7-5. Stegman led off the inning with a single and then scored on a double to right center by
Cassidy Merriman cutting the Lion lead to 5-4.
Quimby's single to center scored Merriman and then a single by
Lacie Myers scored
Sierra Kemp putting the Ichabods in front 6-5.
An RBI ground out by
Lexie Myers scoring Quimby wrapped up the inning and Washburn in front 7-5.
In the seventh, Carson got the first two Missouri Southern batters out before a single then Carson strikes out the final batter for the win.
Washburn (14-14, 4-6 MIAA) outhit the Lions 10 to 7. Ruder and Stegman had two hits to lead the Ichabods.
Carson pitched two innings in relief striking out two with an earned run.
The Ichabods return to action on Saturday with a doubleheader at Pittsburg State, who received votes in this week's NFCA top 25 coaches poll.
