TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabod softball team swept an MIAA doubleheader winning 4-1 and 2-1 over Central Missouri on Friday at the Washburn Softball Complex. Washburn returns to the field on Saturday hosting Southwest Baptist in another MIAA tilt starting at 1 p.m.
Game 1 - Washburn 2, Central Missouri 1
The Washburn Ichabods scored two runs in the bottom sixth on an RBI double by
Taylor Zimmerman and a bases loaded walk by
Lexie Myers sending the Ichabods to a 2-1 win.
Central Missouri borke open a scoreless game with a leadoff home run by Emily Robinson in the fifth inning.
Samantha Carson allowed only two hits while striking out five in 93 pitches improving to 8-7 on the season. The Jennies' Robinson fell to 8-6 on the season.
Washburn outhit the Jennies 7 to 2 in the game and stranded eight runners on base.
Zimmerman had two hits and
Lacie Myers recorded two hits as well including a double.
Game 2 - Washburn 4, Central Missouri 1
Washburn took the early lead scoring three in the bottom of the first after an RBI double by
Cassidy Merriman which scored
Ashley Ruder who reached on infield singles.Â
Taylor Zimmerman grounded out to second scoring Stegman who singled earlier in the inning. A sac fly by
Sierra Kemp sent Merriman home.
In the third the Jennies got on the board with a solo home run by Emily King cutting the Ichabod lead to 3-1.
Washburn came back with a run of its own in the bottom of the inning when
Marina Quimby scored Merriman putting the Ichabods back up by three runs at 4-1.
Neither team would score the rest of the way as the Ichabods picked up their second MIAA doubleheader sweep of the season.
Ashley Wills picked up the complete game win striking out four allowing one earned run scattering six hits.
Merriman had two hits to lead the Ichabods.
