TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabod softball team split an MIAA doubleheader with Central Oklahoma on Wednesday in Topeka winning game one 3-1 before falling 8-2 in the nightcap. Washburn will host Wayne State on Thursday in non-conference action starting at 2 p.m.
Game 1 - WU 3, UCO 1The Ichabods scored first when
Marina Quimby led off the second inning with her third home run of the season.
In the fifth inning, the Ichabods added another after
Haylee Marsteller singled then moved to third after an error by Central Oklahoma's right fielder sending her to third base. Marsteller scored on a wild pitch putting the Ichabods up 2-0.
UCO got on the board in the sixth inning with a solo run in the sixth inning, but the Ichabods added one of their own in the bottom of the sixth when
Sierra Kemp singled to left scoring
Cassidy Merriman who reached on a single to center.
Samantha Carson improved to 9-9 on the season striking out five with no walks scattering six hits for UCO.
Six different Ichabods had one hit in the game. UCO left seven runners on and Washburn stranded four.
Game 2 - UCO 8, WU 2The Bronchos scored two in the first and added one more in the second jumping out to a 3-0 lead.
Washburn scored in the fifth inning on a sac fly by
Lexie Myers which scored
Sierra Kemp who led off the frame with a single.
UCO came back with two of its own in the sixth inning going up 5-1. The Ichabods (18-22, 8-14 MIAA) scored a solo run in the sixth on an RBI single by
Lacie Myers scoring Quimby who doubled in the inning.Â
The Bronchos (31-15, 13-6 MIAA) added three unearned runs in the seventh going up 8-2 as the Ichabods would go in order in the bottom of the inning taking the loss.
UCO outhit the Ichabods 14 to 5 in the game. The Ichabods left seven runners on base as five different Ichabods recorded a hit.
Ashley Wells dropped to 8-9 on the season allowing four earned runs.
