SHAWNEE, Okla. --- The Washburn Ichabods went 1-1 in the first day of the MIAA/GAC Crossover sweeping East Central before falling to host school Oklahoma Baptist 3-2.
#14 Washburn 3, East Central 0 (25-19, 25-14, 25-16)
After a shaky start in their first set, the Ichabods found their rhythm to finish over East Central 25-19, 25-14, 25-16 improving to 7-2 on the year.
Washburn hit .170 and registered 44 kills, while holding the Tigers to -.016 and 19 kills.
Leanna Willer led the way for the Ichabods as she tallied her third double-double of the season and 49
th of her career as she finished with 12 kills and 14 digs.
Sarah Vicory followed with 10 kills and six blocks.
Megan Pedersen and
Erica Montgomery each chipped in with five kills.
Alyssa Carney finished with a match-high 23 digs.
Oklahoma Baptist 3, Washburn 2 (20-25, 24-26, 25-19, 25-19, 15-12)
For only the sixth time in 336 matches since 2002, the Ichabods fell after winning the first two sets in a 3-2 loss to host Oklahoma Baptist (5-7).
Washburn (7-3) won the first two sets 25-20 and 26-24 before the Bison rallied to take the final three sets 25-19, 25-19 and 15-12 to knock off the Ichabods.
After the Ichabods hit .308 in the first set, they fell to .188 in the second set and then to .000 in the third set
The Ichabods were led by
Sarah Vicory's 15 kills while
Leanna Willer added 13 and
Kelsey Barrick recorded 12.
Natalie Bates dished out 20 assists while
Shayla Conner and
Megan Pedersen each had 17. Willer marked up her 50
th career double double adding 19 digs and Conner also had a double double with 13 digs.
Alyssa Carney recorded 23 digs to lead the team.
With the loss the Ichabods drop to 0-3 in matches which go to five sets.
Washburn returns to action on Saturday with an 11 a.m. match with Southeastern Oklahoma followed by a 3 p.m. start time with Northwestern Oklahoma State.
