Box Score 2 TOPEKA, Kan. -- The No. 16-ranked Washburn Ichabods improved to 36-0 all-time in the Washburn Volleyball Invitational presented by the Topeka Capital Plaza Hotel and Convention Center with another pair of sweeps over Mary and Drury. The Ichabods return to action on Friday and Saturday at the Palm Beach Atlantic Tournament.
LeAnna Willer was named the tournament most valuable player after averaging 3.92 kills per set and 3.17 digs per set.
Sarah Vicory was also named to the all-tournament team leading the event with a .500 hitting percentage connecting on 32 kills with two errors in 60 swings.
#16 Washburn 3, Mary 0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-20)
The Ichabods handed the Marauders their first loss of the season in a sweep in their first match of the day.
In the opening set the Ichabods jumped out to a 5-1 lead and never looked back. Midway through the set Mary did cut the Washburn (3-0) lead to two at 12-10, but a 7-1 run by the Ichabods put the set out of reach as the Ichabods closed on a 5-0 run. Washburn hit .464 in the opening set as a team and
Sarah Vicory had five kills.
In the second set, Washburn was down until taking the lead for good at 15-14.
Leanna Willer had five kills in 13 swings in the set.
Washburn held Mary to a -.026 hitting percentage in the set while hitting .231 wrapping up the match.Â
Willer led the Ichabods with 11 kills while Vicory added seven and Â
Makayla Maxwell had six.
Natalie Bates recorded 28 assists and
Taylor Selk had ten digs to lead the Ichabods.
#16 Washburn 3, Drury 0 (25-16, 28-26, 25-17)
In the opening set the Ichabods rolled to a 25-16 win after jumping out to an 8-2 lead and the Panthers would not get closer than six the rest of the way as Washburn outhit the Panthers .355 to .100 as
Leanna Willer had eight kills in 10 attempts with no errors adding four digs along with
Alyssa Carney's four digs in the set.
In the second set, Washburn trailed by 17-8 to the Panthers before the Ichabods rallied to tie the score at 25-25 using a 17-8 run. The Panthers went back in front at 26-25 after a kill by Brooke Antenen and then Washburn tied it back at 26-26 on a kill by
Erica Montgomery. A second kill by Montgomery put Washburn up one and a kill by
Sarah Vicory clinched the set at 28-26.
Washburn fell behind in the third set 5-3 before taking the lead for good at 7-6 and would use a 11-6 run to maintain the lead and wrap up the weekend with a 4-0 record.
Willer finished with a match-high 16 kills with two errors in 35 attempts adding 11 digs while
Kelsey Barrick had 10 kills. Bates dished out 41 assists and had six digs while Carney recorded a match-high 15.Â
Washburn finished with a .262 hitting percentage while holding the Panthers to a .133 number.Â
