9/30/2016 9:50:00 PM

Box Score TOPEKA, Kan. --- The Washburn volleyball team rolled past Southwest Baptist on Friday night at Lee Arena by the score of 3-0.

With the result, the 18th-ranked Ichabods moved to 12-4 on season and hold a conference mark of 3-1.

Leading the charge for Washburn was senior outside hitter Leanna Willer who finished with 15 kills and a team-best .414 hitting percentage, while classmate Sarah Vicory tallied eight kills and registered a hitting percentage of .400. Natalie Bates meanwhile served as the catalyst for the Ichabod attack as she carded 22 assists.

Washburn was also stout on defense as Alyssa Carney led the way on defensive with a match-high of 12 digs, while Makayla Maxwell and Vicory finished with six blocks each.

Following a 25-15 result in set one, the Ichabods raced out to a 10-3 advantage during the second frame thanks in part to a 9-0 run. Southwest Baptist (3-13, 0-3) ended the sprut by forcing an attack error. Despite the run stalling out, the Ichabods generated enough momentum to close out the set 25-16.

With a 10-7 lead to begin the third, WU showed its dominance and closed the door on the Bearcats as it posted a season-high 12 unanswered points and making it 22-7. During the stretch, the 'Bods forced SBU into seven attack errors while kills by Makayla Maxwell, Taylor Selk, Willer, Megan Pedersen and Vicory made up the balance.

A service ace and a pair of kills from Southwest Baptist helped bring itself closer but the effort was not enough to close the chasm before the Ichabods claimed the set, 25-10.

Washburn will conclude its weekend home stand on Saturday when it hosts Missouri Southern at 6 p.m.
