ST. CHARLES, Mo. -- The Washburn women's soccer team tied its season high with its third consecutive victory Friday, in a come-from behind, 2-1 win over Lindenwood University.
After giving up an early first-half goal, the Ichabods countered with a strong second half performance, scoring two unanswered goals.
The Lions scored in the fourth minute on a Becky Roberts goal, her fifth of the season. The Ichabods were stifled on offense in the first 45 minutes, getting off just two shots compared to the Lions' seven. None of the Ichabods' shots in the first half were on goal.
The Ichabods finally got on the board in the 70th minute, when
Tera Lynch scored on an assist from
Kelsi Smith, tying the game at 1-1. It took until the 86th minute for the Ichabods to take a lead, when
Paige Swanson scored her fourth goal of the year off of a
Rebecca Weimer assist.
The Ichabods have now scored more goals in 2017 than in all of 2016, with 20 compared to last season's 19, and are now 8-4-1 overall. Another victory will tie the win total from 2016. They will next take on the top-ranked, undefeated Jennies of the University of Central Missouri. The match will take place at 1 p.m. Sunday, in Warrensburg, Missouri.
