EDMOND, Okla. – The Washburn Ichabods put up a big-time fight but came up short in a 3-1 loss to No. 12-ranked Central Oklahoma wrapping up the regular season. The Ichabods will find out their first round MIAA Tournament opponent on Saturday after the completion of the MIAA regular season. Washburn (18-13, 8-10 MIAA) dropped the first set 25-17 to the Bronchos, who finished the regular season 28-4 and 15-3 in the MIAA.
In the second set, the Ichabods fought off three set points to even the match at 1-1 after a kill by
Makayla Maxwell tied the score at 26-26. After a hitting error by UCO,
Allison Maxwell closed out the set with a kill with the Ichabods taking in 28-26.
In the third set, neither team would get any more than four until UCO built a 20-16 lead. The Ichabods came back to tie the score at 20-20 and an ace by
Genna Berg put Washburn up 21-20. UCO scored the next three points to go back up 23-21. A kill by
Makayla Maxwell cut the lead to 23-22. The teams traded points, but an attack error by the Ichabods wrapped up the 25-23 third set win for UCO.
The fourth set saw the Ichabods fall behind 4-1 and 16-10 to UCO before Washburn won five of the next six points to cut the UCO lead to 18-17 and Washburn would come back to take the lead at 22-20 and 23-21, but the Bronchos closed out the match with a 4-0 win taking the set 25-23.
Berg led the Ichabods with 16 kills and
Taylor Selk recorded 11.
Allison Sadler had 30 assists giving her 941 on the season.
Faith Rottinghaus had 21 digs and
Olivia Powell had 17.
UCO's Jordan Spence and Taylor Bevis each had 18 kills and McKenzie Fyfe had 56 assists.
