TOPEKA, Kan. – The women's junior varsity basketball team is still searching for a victory after a 20-point loss to Kansas City Kansas Community College Monday.
The Ichabods hung tight with the now 10-1 Blue Devils in the first quarter, ending the period down 13-12. But by the end of the first half the Blue Devils offense came alive, scoring 30 points in the second quarter to take a 43-24 halftime lead.
Jordan Lenherr kept the Ichabods afloat, scoring 20 points on 8-9 shooting from the field. The Ichabods also had a solid performance from the free throw line, going 14-20 on the night.
The Ichabods struggled from beyond the arc, shooting just 2-17 on 3-pointers, but kept battling in the fourth quarter to reduce what was once a 26-point Blue Devil lead to just 11 with 4:01 remaining.
The Blue Devils managed to hold off the Ichabods and increase the lead back to a comfortable cushion, eventually winning 78-58.
The 0-6 Ichabods will try for victory number one against Missouri Valley College at 1 p.m. Sunday. The NAIA squad is 5-1 on the season.
