GREAT BEND, Kan. – The Washburn women's junior varsity basketball team was unable to hold onto a halftime lead in an 80-73 loss to Redlands Community College Saturday at the Best Western Booster Club Classic.
Adyson Narber had a team-high 21 points, 18 of those coming in the first half, as the Ichabods were able to take a 40-33 halftime lead. The Ichabods were boosted by a 14-17 performance from the free-throw line in the half.
But the Ichabods fell victim to a monster performance by the Cougars' Jamia Sheppard, who shot 9-11 from the field and 10-11 from the line in a 32-point second half, including scoring 22 of the team's 24 points in the fourth quarter.
Jordan Lenherr and
Hayley Thompson both had a double-doubles, Lenherr with 14 points and 14 rebounds and Thompson with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Sydney Paialii was the other Ichabod to score in double figures with 10.
The Ichabods outrebounded the Cougars 54-20, including 27 offensive rebounds, but were unable to derail the Cougars strong 3-point shooting, as they went 13-24 for the game.
The Ichabods will look for their first victory against Labette Community College. The game will take place Tuesday, Nov. 14 at 5:30 p.m. in Parsons, Kansas. For more information on the 2017-2018 women's JV season, visit wusports.com.
