TOPEKA, Kan. --- The Washburn baseball team was dealt a tough loss on Monday in its series finale as Missouri Western escaped 6-3 in 12 innings.
WU starter
Jacob Head conceded one run while scattering five runs and three strikeouts in his eight innings but received a no decision. The loss went to
Maustin Otterstatter who surrendered three runs on five hits in three innings of work.
Marcus McKinney made a one inning relief appearance, though missed save opportunity as he allowed the tying two runs in the ninth.
Darian Abram went 3-for-5 on day with one run while
Riley Krane scored twice and reached base with a hit and a walk. A double for
Josh Crosby was good for one of his two hits as he also drove home two.
Brett Nickle also picked up an RBI thanks to a sacrifice fly.
After plating one in the first to take a 1-0 lead, Washburn (8-6, 0-3 MIAA) pushed two across in the third for a 3-0 advantage.
Missouri Western (6-7, 3-0 MIAA) rallied in the ninth to tie the game at 3-3 before capitalizing on a pair of fielding errors to take a 6-3 lead in the 12
th.
During the final three innings Washburn struggled at the plate reaching base only once.
The Ichabods will return to action at Falley Field this weekend with a three-game set against Northeastern State.
