TOPEKA, Kan. – The Washburn women's tennis team returned to its winning ways, cruising to an 8-1 win over the Tigers of Fort Hays State Saturday morning at the Washburn Tennis Complex.
The regionally-ranked Ichabods leaped out to an early 3-0 lead over the visiting Tigers after sweeping all three doubles points.
Madeline Hill and
Jacqueline Engelbrecht ousted Fort Hays State duo Natalie Lubbers and Lauren Lindell in an 8-1 decision.
Logan Morrissey and
MaKenna Gonzales rolled to an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles.
Madison Lysaught and
Ally Burr defeated Nicole Lubbers and Jessica Johnson, 8-2.
With three points already in the bag Washburn stormed into singles action where it secured five of six courts.
Madeline Hill blanked her competitor at No. 1 doubles for her 25
th win of the season 6-0, 6-0.
Madison Lysaught dropped only one game in a 6-1, 6-0 win over Nicole Lubbers to clinch the match for Washburn.
Jacqueline Engelbrecht got back on track with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Natalie Lubbers at No. 2 singles.
Ally Burr downed Haley Weidemann at No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-0 before
Logan Morrissey defeated No. 3 singles netter Lauren Lindell 6-2, 6-4.
Macy Moyers defeated
MaKenna Gonzales at No. 4 singles to pick up FHSU's only point of the morning in a 6-3, 6-4 decision.
Washburn improves to 7-3 on the season and will return to action next week when it visits Lindenwood and Southwest Baptist for a pair of MIAA showdowns.
