ST. CHARLES, Mo. --- The Washburn women's tennis team outlasted the Lindenwood Lions 5-4 Friday afternoon in St. Charles, Mo.
The Ichabods notched its third one-point victory of the season in its first of back-to-back matches on the road after getting out to an early 2-1 lead. The seventh-ranked duo of
Madeline Hill and
Jacqueline Engelbrecht handily defeated a pair of Lindenwood netters 8-2 at No. 1 singles.
Logan Morrissey and
MaKenna Gonzales rolled to an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles.
Ally Burr and
Madison Lysaught were ousted at the No. 3 spot in an 8-4 decision.
No. 8Â Hill rolled to a 6-4, 1-0 win in singles play over Tereza Melicharkova, before Gonzales dropped No. 4 singles to Clara Riccamiglio in straight-sets 6-2, 6-1.
Morrissey was dealt a 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 loss at No.3 singles by Haya Hamed to tie the score at three-all.
Engelbrecht turn the tide and notched a win at No. 2 singles in three sets 3-6, 7-5, 7-5 to give Washburn a 4-3 lead before
Madison Lysaught clinched the match at No. 5 singles cruising to a 6-3, 6-4 win over Rebeca Aguilar.
Burr was outlasted in three sets 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 to close out the match.
Washburn will return to action tomorrow at noon, taking on No. 16 Southwest Baptist.
