BOLIVAR, Mo. --- The Washburn women's tennis team wasn't able to fight of No. 16 Southwest Baptist in a 5-1 loss Saturday afternoon.
SBU got out to a quick lead after securing all three courts in doubles play. The seventh-ranked duo of
Madeline Hill and
Jacqueline Engelbrecht were dealt their second loss of the season in an 8-3 decision.
Logan Morrissey and MaKenna Gonzalez were handed an 8-4 loss at the hands of a pair of Bearcat netters.
Madison Lysaught and
Ally Burr were defeated in an identical score of 8-4 at No. 3 doubles.
Hill provided a bright spot on the afternoon after picking up the 26
th win of her Washburn career at No. 1 singles in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.
Jacqueline Engelbrecht was defeated in two at No. 2 singles in a 7-5, 6-4 decision, followed by a loss by
MaKenna Gonzales at No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-2 at the hands of a SBU netter to clinch the match.
The Ichabods drop to 8-4 on the season and will head home to face non-conference foe Missouri- St. Louis before restarting MIAA action against Central Oklahoma.
