TOPEKA, Kan. – The Washburn women's tennis team struggled in a 7-2 loss to non-conference foe Missouri – St. Louis.
The Ichabods fell behind early after dropping all three doubles points. Little changed in singles play as Washburn let four of six courts slip away.
The No. 7 doubles duo of
Madeline Hill and
Jacqueline Engelbrecht were defeated 8-4 at No. 1.
Logan Morrissey and
MaKenna Gonzales lost at No. 2 doubles with an identical score of 8-4.
Ally Burr and
Madison Lysaught were ousted at the three spot 8-3.
Washburn notched a pair of wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles when No. 8 Hill knocked off Triton netter Jennifer Hauer in straight sets 6-3, 6-2. Hill is now within one of tying the single-season record for singles wins.
Engelbrecht got back on track with a three set 6-7, 6-2, 10-3 win at No. 2 singles.
Morrissey was defeated in three sets at No. 3 singles 6-7, 6-3, 10-6.
Gonzales was downed in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.
Lysaught dropped No. 5 singles in two 6-2, 7-6(9-7)
Burr was ousted at No. 6 singles 6-2, 6-1
Washburn drops to 8-5 on the season and will return to action on Wednesday against MIAA opponent Central Oklahoma. Matches have been moved indoors due to forecasted rain and will be played at the Topeka Country Club with a start time of 12 p.m.
