TOPEKA, Kan. --- Washburn baseball suffered a tough loss on Friday dropping the series opener to Nebraska-Kearney, 11-2. As a result, the Ichabods slide to 17-11 on the season and move to .500 in conference play with a 9-9 mark.

Tanner Triggs and
Zach Macke each went 2-for-4 on the day while
Brett Nickle finished 2-for-3 and drew a walk.
Dylan Lonteen and
Darian Abram each recorded an extra base knock as each had a double for their lone hit of the afternoon. In total, Washburn has seven different reach base behind 10 hits.

Washburn was held scoreless till the fourth till Lonteen slapped a single to left field allowing Triggs to race home from first. Later in the inning
Bowe Behymer drove in Lonteen to cut the UNK lead to 3-2 and extend his streak of safely reaching base to 12 games.

The Lopers slowly pieced together a 3-0 lead scoring once in each of the first three frames. WU held Nebraska-Kearney scoreless during the fourth and fifth. UNK then tacked on three more during the next innings to take a 6-2 advantage before plated five in the ninth.

Nick Silva fell to 3-5 on the season as he was dealt the loss allowing four runs, three earned, on seven hits. Silva also struck out six and walked three.
Drew Johnson,
Maustin Otterstatter and
Tanner Strickbine worked the final four innings. Johnson tossed 1.1 innings surrendering two hits on two runs. Otterstatter recorded an out in the seventh before
Tanner Strickbine worked the last 2.1 innings.

Washburn will look to even the series when it returns to Falley Field tomorrow for game two. Due to inclement weather in the area first-pitch has been pushed back to 2 p.m.
