TOPEKA, Kan. --- The Washburn women's tennis team struggled in a 6-3 loss to 20
th-ranked Northeastern State Friday afternoon at the Washburn Tennis Complex.
The Ichabods fell behind early after dropping two of three doubles points. The seventh-ranked duo of
Madeline Hill and
Jacqueline Engelbrecht were defeated 8-4 at No. 1 doubles.
Ally Burr and
Logan Morrissey notched the first point for Washburn at No. 2 doubles in a 9-7 win.
Madison Lysaught and
MaKenna Gonzales were ousted on the third court in an 8-6 decision.
Lysaught was defeated in straight sets at No. 5 singles 6-2, 6-1.
Valeria Efimenko defeated Engelbrecht in a 6-4, 6-2, 10-4 decision
Gonzales notched the second point of the afternoon for the Ichabods with a win at No. 4 singles after defeating Easton Parker in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.
Burr dropped her match at No. 6 singles 6-3, 6-3 and Morrissey was defeated at the three spot in a 7-5, 6-2 decision.
Riding a nine-match win streak,
Madeline Hill highlighted the afternoon's event when she notched her 30
th win of the season in straight set 6-3, 6-3 over No. 30 Molly Worden. The eighth-ranked Ichabod netter now sits atop the single-season wins list with a record 30 wins at No. 1 singles.
The Ichabods drop to 8-7 on the season and were originally scheduled to return to action on April 2 against Rockhurst in a match that since has been postponed. Up next, the Ichabods will continue conference play with a mid-week match against Missouri Western on April 5.
