Complete effort helps Ichabods clip Riverhawks in win

TOPEKA, Kan. --- Washburn baseball won the second game of its series against Northeastern State on Saturday in decisive fashion, 7-2, improving to 10-6 on the year and 2-3 in conference play. The Ichabods will look to sweep the series in their finale on Sunday at 12 p.m.

Riley Krane opened the scoring in the third with his fourth home run of the season to score himself and Darian Abram to make it 2-0 Washburn. Krane finished the afternoon with two hits and a walk in three at-bats while Abram drew three walks, and batted 1-for-2.
 
In the fourth, NSU (9-5, 3-2 MIAA) pushed across a pair of runs to tie the contest at 2-2.
 
Washburn responded with a four-run fourth to take a comfortable 6-2 lead. The Ichabods opened the inning with three of the first four batters of the inning reaching base. Bowe Behymer then drove in two runs with hard hit single through the infield's right side. After loading the bases for a second time in the inning, Zach Macke then scored on a wild pitch to make it 5-2. Behymer then finished his trip around the bases to cap the scoring thanks to an RBI for Cole Gardner.
 
The final run of the day for the Ichabods came in eighth when pinch-hitter Logan Twehous drove in Kasey Clark to make it 7-2.
 
On the mound, WU starter Lance Barkley picked up his fourth win of the season behind a stellar performance. The senior righty worked 7.2 innings including five scoreless. Barkley faced a total of 30 batters and scattered three hits, two runs with one earned while walking one and striking out four. Relievers Jaren Kutzke and Matthew Hicks combined to toss the final four outs.
 
Washburn finished with seven hits from six different batters including a triple from Brett Nickle.
