TOPEKA, Kan. – The Washburn women's tennis team concluded its home slate with a 9-0 sweep over visiting Baker University Tuesday afternoon.
Washburn struck early and got out to a 3-0 lead after securing all three doubles courts.
Madeline Hill and
Jacqueline Engelbrecht took control of second-place in the record books for single season doubles victories with the pair's 25
th win of the season. The duo defeated a pair of Baker netters 8-6.
Ally Burr and
Logan Morrissey ousted a Baker duo 8-3.
Madison Lysaught and
MaKenna Gonzales clinched the final doubles point 8-3.
With a three-point advantage in hand Washburn headed into singles play where Hill notched an easy win at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-1.
Gonzales notched a win at No. 4 singles in a three set 6-2, 7-5, 10-7 win to clinch the match at 5-0.
Engelbrecht knocked off Brooke Barnard in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.
Burr cruised to a win at No. 6 in straight sets as well 6-0, 6-2.
???????Lysaught blanked Jaimie Myers in a dominating 6-0, 6-0 win at the five spot.
Morrissey brought it all together and completed the sweep at No. 3 singles in straight sets 6-1, 6-4 for the Ichabods third sweep of the season.
Washburn improves to 11-7 this season and sixth in the Central Region after already securing a spot in the 2017 MIAA Championships. The Ichabods will travel to Rockhurst tomorrow for an afternoon match with the Hawks slated for 2 p.m.
