Ichabods drop series finale to Southwest Baptist

TOPEKA, Kan. --- Washburn baseball was unable to generate much offense in Sunday's series finale against Southwest Baptist as the Ichabods recorded six hits and left 11 runners on base before falling 5-2 at Falley Field.

Held scoreless through four WU (19-16, 11-13 MIAA) recorded its first run during the fifth thanks to an RBI double from Tanner Triggs (1-for-3) to trim the Bearcat advantage to 5-1. Triggs' shot went down the left the line before rattling the corner allowing Bowe Behymer to race in from first.

Washburn scored again in the seventh as Riley Krane (2-for-5) added to the cause by driving in Landon Hay reducing the SBU margin to 5-2 while recording his 47th RBI of the season. Hay reached base with a lead off walk before advancing in each of the next two at-bats. Soon after reaching base Krane moved into scoring position with his seventh stolen base of the year before being stranded.

Southwest Baptist once again was able to piece together its advantage as it scored registered its first run of the afternoon on a WU fielding error. Consecutive hits during the fourth and fifth frames allowed SBU to plate two runners in each inning to lead by as much as 5-0.

As a result of the outcome Josh Ramirez (3-1) was charged with the loss as he conceded five runs with four earned on 10 hits while tossing five innings. Ryne Dowling then came in and worked the last four innings. Dowling was highly efficient during the first three frames as he retired the opening nine batters he faced in order before closing out his day with one hit and four strikeouts.

Washburn will returns to on Tuesday at 5 p.m. when rival Emporia State visits Falley Field.
