Ichabods Fall in Overtime to Central Oklahoma

TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn soccer team ended its three-match winning streak in a 3-2 overtime loss to Central Oklahoma University Friday.

The Ichabods got off to a 1-0 lead late in the first half when Rebecca Weimer scored her first goal of the year for Washburn, and the Ichabods held onto that lead into halftime.

The second half started with a trio of impressive saves by goalkeeper Kaitlin Minnich, but the Bronchos were eventually able to break through and score, first off of a Asha Haile goal from an assist by Morgan Cherry.

The Bronchos were able to score two unanswered goals in the second half, with the second coming from Falyn Dodd. The Ichabods fell behind 2-1 in the 67th minute, having recorded just one shot on goal for second half.

Kelsi Smith came through with the equalizer for the Ichabods in the 80th minute, her second goal of the season. The Ichabods then took the Bronchos into overtime, which lasted just 5:16 until Mikayla Lowery came through with a goal assisted by Camrie Hurst to end the match.

After allowing just two shots in the first half, the Ichabods allowed 13 in the second half to the Bronchos. Minnich recorded a season-high 11 saves, but was overwhelmed by the Bronchos 14 shots on goal.

With the loss, the Ichabods fall to 5-3-1 on the year, and are facing the undefeated Northeastern State University RiverHawks on Sunday, at 2 p.m. at Yager Stadium. All three of the Ichabods' defeats this season have come at home.
